I had the rare luck of getting sent to London for two weeks to work. It was a very interesting social experience. It was interesting to not only see a different place, but to work there. You get an interesting perspective on a city when you have to commute in it.

London Favorites

Photo Album

Since this was business travel, I did a lot of sightseeing on my own. Thus, I don't have many pictures. The following are a few from when I was traveling with others outside of London. In truth, most of what I did in London was go to nice dinners, work, and amuse myself with cultural differences.

(Who knew that the G button on an elevator was for the ground floor not the garage? Which coin is two pence? Which tube station is that?)

Here I am on the remains of Old Sarum, a fortress first built in 500 BC outside of the the city of Salisbury. As I am from the west coast of the US where something over 100 years is considered old, something that ancient is a bit mind blowing for me.

Here I am at Stonehenge, which is just outside of Salisbury. I must admit that this picture does it more justice than it should. What you don't see is the orange safety barrier surrounding Stonehenge. I guess too many drunken idiots were defacing it.

It is nice to know there are drunken idiots everywhere. It's one of those universal things we all share.

While in England I did my requisite royal tour.

We went to Windsor for a tour. The town of Windsor is quite quaint, but I found the castle itself vaguely depressing. You can only see so many jewel-encrusted sabers before you burn out. My favorite parts weren't the mind-numbing opulence or the pretty architecture. My favorites were the fabulously detailed miniature doll house on display and the delightful grounds as shown in the picture.

I found this ad a bit ominous. Who knew you had to buy a license (well, licence) to watch TV?

I loved the advertisements on the tube. I've never seen so many amusing ads for hangover cures in my life!
